Smart Grid Demand and Generation Forecasting

The challenge
Grids now handle variable renewable generation, new loads such as electric vehicle charging, and power flowing in both directions. Planning on historical averages no longer works.

What we built
We built an AI model that forecasts both demand and generation across the grid and helps operators balance load before stress builds up.

Operators get earlier warning of pressure points and a clearer basis for connecting more renewables. The model has been demonstrated in an operational setting and is ready for a fast proof of concept on a new network’s data.

Business value

  • Better forecasts of demand and generation
  • Earlier warning of stress on the network
  • Support for bringing more renewables onto the grid
  • Load balancing based on data, not averages

Where else it applies
The same approach transfers to industrial energy management, smart buildings, and electric vehicle charging networks. It belongs to our Real-Time Intelligence work: data analysed as it happens, with alerts when something needs attention, instead of reports that arrive too late.
