SMART Researchers Project Launched to Support Early-Career Scientists

The SMART Researchers project began in September 2025 under the Horizon Europe programme. The initiative aims to support early-stage researchers in developing sustainable career paths within academia, industry, and public service.

The project brings together 11 partners from Serbia, Croatia, Greece, and Latvia to strengthen local research environments and provide structured opportunities for professional growth. Through training, mentorship, and networking, participants will be able to access resources that help them advance their careers without leaving their home countries.

Career and Collaboration Hubs

A key activity of the project is the establishment of seven regional Career and Collaboration Centers. These hubs will offer tailored programs, international exchanges, certifications, and practical support to researchers. Their goal is to connect academic knowledge with real-world application and to help researchers gain skills and experience relevant to the global job market.

Linking Research, Industry, and Public Institutions

SMART Researchers promotes cooperation between universities, companies, and public organizations. This collaboration aims to align research with market needs and emerging societal priorities such as innovation, digital transformation, and sustainability. A series of workshops and events will connect researchers with employers and partners across different sectors.

Role of Sparky

As a project partner, Sparky contributes by delivering training, organizing local events, mentoring participants, and building connections with industry. Through these activities, researchers in Croatia will have opportunities to:

  • expand their professional networks locally and internationally
  • gain practical skills relevant to their fields
  • engage in collaborative research initiatives
  • strengthen the visibility of regional research institutions within the European context

The SMART Researchers project reflects a shared commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists and building conditions for sustainable research careers in Europe.
